13:21 It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with ¹  three measures ²  of flour until all the dough had risen.” ³

15:15 So he went and worked for ⁴  one of the citizens of that country, who ⁵  sent him to his fields to feed pigs. ⁶ 

[13:21]  ¹ tn Grk “hid in.”

[13:21]  ² sn This measure was a saton, the Greek name for the Hebrew term “seah.” Three of these was a very large quantity of flour, since a saton is a little over 16 lbs (7 kg) of dry measure (or 13.13 liters). So this was over 47 lbs (21 kg) of flour total, enough to feed over a hundred people.

[13:21]  ³ tn Grk “it was all leavened.”

[15:15]  ⁴ tn Grk “joined himself to” (in this case an idiom for beginning to work for someone).

[15:15]  ⁵ tn Grk “and he.” Here the conjunction καί (kai) and the personal pronoun have been translated by a relative pronoun to improve the English style.

[15:15]  ⁶ sn To a Jew, being sent to the field to feed pigs would be an insult, since pigs were considered unclean animals (Lev 11:7).
