14:15 When ⁶  one of those at the meal with Jesus ⁷  heard this, he said to him, “Blessed is everyone ⁸  who will feast ⁹  in the kingdom of God!” ¹⁰ 

[14:27]  ¹ sn It was customary practice in a Roman crucifixion for the prisoner to be made to carry his own cross. Jesus is speaking figuratively here in the context of rejection. If the priority is not one’s allegiance to Jesus, then one will not follow him in the face of possible rejection; see Luke 9:23.

[14:27]  ² tn Grk “and come after.” In combination with the verb ἔρχομαι (ercomai) the improper preposition ὀπίσω (opisw) means “follow.”

[23:19]  ³ tn Grk “who” (a continuation of the previous sentence).

[23:19]  ⁴ sn Ironically, what Jesus was alleged to have done, started an insurrection, this man really did.

[23:19]  ⁵ sn This is a parenthetical note by the author.

[14:15]  ⁶ tn Grk “him”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[14:15]  ⁸ tn Or “will dine”; Grk “eat bread.” This refers to those who enjoy the endless fellowship of God’s coming rule.

[14:15]  ⁹ sn The kingdom of God is a major theme of Jesus. It is a realm in which Jesus rules and to which those who trust him belong. See Luke 6:20; 11:20; 17:20-21.
