Luke 14:9

14:9 So ¹  the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this man your place.’ Then, ashamed, ²  you will begin to move to the least important ³  place.

Luke 19:37

19:37 As he approached the road leading down from ⁴  the Mount of Olives, ⁵  the whole crowd of his ⁶  disciples began to rejoice ⁷  and praise ⁸  God with a loud voice for all the mighty works ⁹  they had seen: ¹⁰ 

Luke 21:24

21:24 They ¹¹  will fall by the edge ¹²  of the sword and be led away as captives ¹³  among all nations. Jerusalem ¹⁴  will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ¹⁵ 

[14:9]  ¹ tn Grk “host, and.” Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate this action is a result of the situation described in the previous verse. Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.

[14:9]  ² tn Or “then in disgrace”; Grk “with shame.” In this culture avoiding shame was important.

[14:9]  ³ tn Grk “lowest place” (also in the repetition of the phrase in the next verse).

[19:37]  ⁴ tn Grk “the descent of”; this could refer to either the slope of the hillside itself or the path leading down from it (the second option has been adopted for the translation, see L&N 15.109).

[19:37]  ⁵ sn See the note on the name Mount of Olives in v. 29.

[19:37]  ⁶ tn Grk “the”; the Greek article has been translated here as a possessive pronoun (ExSyn 215).

[19:37]  ⁷ tn Here the participle χαίροντες (caironte") has been translated as a finite verb in English; it could also be translated adverbially as a participle of manner: “began to praise God joyfully.”
