16:28 (for I have five brothers) to warn ¹  them so that they don’t come ²  into this place of torment.’

Luke 22:32

22:32 but I have prayed for you, Simon, ³  that your faith may not fail. ⁴  When ⁵  you have turned back, ⁶  strengthen ⁷  your brothers.”

Luke 6:42

6:42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck from your eye,’ while you yourself don’t see the beam in your own? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

[16:28]  ¹ sn To warn them. The warning would consist of a call to act differently than their dead brother had, or else meet his current terrible fate.

[22:32]  ³ sn Here and in the remainder of the verse the second person pronouns are singular, so only Peter is in view. The name “Simon” has been supplied as a form of direct address to make this clear in English.

[22:32]  ⁷ sn Strengthen your brothers refers to Peter helping to strengthen their faith. Jesus quite graciously restores Peter “in advance,” even with the knowledge of his approaching denials.
