2:17 When ¹  they saw him, ²  they related what they had been told ³  about this child,

20:26 Thus ⁴  they were unable in the presence of the people to trap ⁵  him with his own words. ⁶  And stunned ⁷  by his answer, they fell silent.

[2:17]  ¹ tn Grk “And when.” Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[2:17]  ² tn The word “him” is not in the Greek text, but is implied. Direct objects were frequently omitted in Greek when clear from the context.

[20:26]  ⁴ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “thus” to indicate the implied result of Jesus’ unexpected answer.
