6:27 “But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies, ¹  do good to those who hate you,

11:43 Woe to you Pharisees! You love the best seats ²  in the synagogues ³  and elaborate greetings ⁴  in the marketplaces!

[6:27]  ¹ sn Love your enemies is the first of four short exhortations that call for an unusual response to those who are persecuting disciples. Disciples are to relate to hostility in a completely unprecedented manner.

[11:43]  ² tn Or “seats of honor.” The term here is plural and is not a reference only to the lead “seat of Moses” in the synagogue, but includes the front seats near the ark.
