Luke 9:41

9:41 Jesus answered, ¹  “You ²  unbelieving ³  and perverse generation! How much longer ⁴  must I be with you and endure ⁵  you? ⁶  Bring your son here.”

Luke 17:23

17:23 Then people ⁷  will say to you, ‘Look, there he is!’ ⁸  or ‘Look, here he is!’ Do not go out or chase after them. ⁹ 

Luke 19:27

19:27 But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be their king, ¹⁰  bring them here and slaughter ¹¹  them ¹²  in front of me!’”

[9:41]  ¹ tn Grk “And answering, Jesus said.” This is redundant in contemporary English and has been simplified to “Jesus answered.” Here δέ (de) has not been translated.

[9:41]  ² tn Grk “O.” The marker of direct address, ὦ (w), is functionally equivalent to a vocative and is represented in the translation by “you.”

[9:41]  ³ tn Or “faithless.”

[9:41]  ⁴ tn Grk “how long.”

[9:41]  ⁵ tn Or “and put up with.” See Num 11:12; Isa 46:4.

[9:41]  ⁶ sn The pronouns you…you are plural, indicating that Jesus is speaking to a group rather than an individual.

[17:23]  ⁷ tn Grk “And they will say.” The plural in Greek is indefinite, referring to people in general. Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[17:23]  ⁸ tn The words “he is” here and in the following clause are understood and have been supplied from the context.

[17:23]  ⁹ sn Do not go out or chase after them. There will be no need to search for the Son of Man at his coming, though many will falsely claim its arrival.
