2:14 As he went along, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax booth. ¹  “Follow me,” he said to him. And he got up and followed him.

5:15 They came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man sitting there, clothed and in his right mind – the one who had the “Legion” – and they were afraid.

Mark 16:5

16:5 Then ²  as they went into the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe ³  sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.

Mark 14:62

14:62 “I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand ⁴  of the Power ⁵  and coming with the clouds of heaven.” ⁶ 

[2:14]  ¹ tn While “tax office” is sometimes given as a translation for τελώνιον (telwnion, so L&N 57.183), this could give the modern reader a false impression of an indoor office with all its associated furnishings.

[16:5]  ² tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[16:5]  ³ sn Mark does not explicitly identify the young man dressed in a white robe as an angel (though the white robe suggests this), but Matthew does (Matt 28:2).

[14:62]  ³ sn An allusion to Ps 110:1. This is a claim that Jesus shares authority with God in heaven. Those present may have thought they were his judges, but, in fact, the reverse was true.

[14:62]  ⁴ sn The expression the right hand of the Power is a circumlocution for referring to God. Such indirect references to God were common in 1st century Judaism out of reverence for the divine name.

[14:62]  ⁵ sn An allusion to Dan 7:13.
