Trees and Their Fruit

12:33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad ¹  and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is known by its fruit.

Matthew 3:10

3:10 Even now the ax is laid at ²  the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

[12:33]  ¹ tn Grk “rotten.” The word σαπρός, modifying both “tree” and “fruit,” can also mean “diseased” (L&N 65.28).

[3:10]  ² sn Laid at the root. That is, placed and aimed, ready to begin cutting.
