Matthew 13:17

13:17 For I tell you the truth, ¹  many prophets and righteous people longed to see ²  what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

Matthew 24:2

24:2 And he said to them, ³  “Do you see all these things? I tell you the truth, ⁴  not one stone will be left on another. ⁵  All will be torn down!” ⁶ 

[13:17]  ¹ tn Grk “truly (ἀμήν, amhn) I say to you.”

[13:17]  ² sn This is what past prophets and righteous people had wanted very much to see, yet the fulfillment had come to the disciples. This remark is like 1 Pet 1:10-12 or Heb 1:1-2.

[24:2]  ³ tn Grk “answering, he said to them.” The participle ἀποκριθείς (ajpokriqei") is redundant in English and has not been translated.

[24:2]  ⁴ tn Grk “Truly (ἀμήν, amhn), I say to you.”

[24:2]  ⁵ sn With the statement not one stone will be left on another Jesus predicted the total destruction of the temple, something that did occur in a.d. 70.

[24:2]  ⁶ tn Grk “not one stone will be left here on another which will not be thrown down.”
