Matthew 18:28

18:28 After ¹  he went out, that same slave found one of his fellow slaves who owed him one hundred silver coins. ²  So ³  he grabbed him by the throat and started to choke him, ⁴  saying, ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ ⁵

23:15 “Woe to you, experts in the law ⁶  and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You cross land and sea to make one convert, ⁷  and when you get one, ⁸  you make him twice as much a child of hell ⁹  as yourselves!

Matthew 24:2

24:2 And he said to them, ¹⁰  “Do you see all these things? I tell you the truth, ¹¹  not one stone will be left on another. ¹²  All will be torn down!” ¹³ 

Matthew 24:31

24:31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet blast, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven ¹⁴  to the other.

[18:28]  ² tn Grk “one hundred denarii.” The denarius was a silver coin worth about a day’s wage for a laborer; this would be about three month’s pay.

[18:28]  ³ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so.” A new sentence was started at this point in the translation in keeping with the tendency of contemporary English style to use shorter sentences.

[18:28]  ⁴ tn Grk “and he grabbed him and started choking him.”

[18:28]  ⁵ tn The word “me” is not in the Greek text, but is implied. Direct objects were often omitted in Greek when clear from the context.

[24:2]  ¹³ sn With the statement not one stone will be left on another Jesus predicted the total destruction of the temple, something that did occur in a.d. 70.

[24:31]  ¹⁶ tn Or “of the sky”; the Greek word οὐρανός (ouranos) may be translated “sky” or “heaven,” depending on the context.
