• [Mat 28:2] God Hath Sent His Angels

  God hath sent His angels to the earth again, Bringing joyful tidings to the sons of men; They who first at Christmas thronged the heavenly way, Now beside the tomb door sit on Easter day. Refrain Angels, sing His triumph as you sang His birth, “Christ the Lord is risen, peace, goodwill on earth!” In the dreadful desert, where the Lord was tried, There the faithful angels gathered at His side; And when, in the garden, grief and pain and care Bowed Him down with anguish, they were with Him there.   The bells of Easter sweetly peal: “Christ is risen! Christ is risen!” They chime the hope He doth reveal, This joyful Easter day. The Lord of Life hath gone on high; Christ is risen! Christ is risen! “Rejoice,” with swelling notes they cry! “Rejoice, rejoice!” they say. Refrain Shines the glorious heav’nly portal! Angel songs we almost hear! O the joy of life immortal.   Said the angel, “He is risen!” Tell it out with joyful voice: He has burst His three days’ prison; Let the whole wide earth rejoice: Death is conquered, we are free, Christ has won the victory. Come, ye sad and fearful hearted, With glad smile and radiant brow! Death’s long shadows have departed; All our woes are over now, Due to passion that He bore— Sin and pain can vex no more. Come, with high and holy hymning, Chant our Lord’s triumphant day; Not one darksome cloud is dimming Yonder glorious morning ray, Breaking over the purple east: Brighter far our Easter feast. • [Mat 28:11] Come Unto Me

  Hear the blessèd Savior calling the oppressed, “O ye heavy laden, come to Me and rest. Come, no longer tarry, I your load will bear, Bring Me every burden, bring Me every care.” Refrain Come unto Me, I will give you rest; Take My yoke upon you, hear Me and be blessed. I am meek and lowly, come and trust My might. Come, My yoke is easy, and My burden’s light. Are you disappointed, wandering here and there, Dragging chains of doubt and loaded down with care? Do unholy feelings struggle in your breast? Bring your case to Jesus—He will give you rest. Refrain Stumbling on the mountains dark with sin and shame, Stumbling toward the pit of hell’s consuming flame. By the powers of sin deluded and oppressed, Hear the tender Shepherd, “Come to Me and rest.” Refrain Have you by temptation often conquered been, Has a sense of weakness brought distress within?   Come unto Me, when shadows darkly gather, When the sad heart is weary and distressed; Seeking for comfort from your heavenly Father, Come unto Me, and I will give you rest. Ye who have mourned when the spring flowers were taken When the ripe fruit fell richly to the ground, When the loved slept, in brighter homes to waken, Where their pale brows with spirit-wreaths are crowned, Large are the mansions in thy Father’s dwelling; Glad are the homes that sorrows never dim; Sweet are the harps in holy music swelling; Soft are the tones which raise the heavenly hymn.   “Come unto Me, ye weary, and I will give you rest.” O blessèd voice of Jesus, which comes to hearts oppressed! It tells of benediction, of pardon, grace and peace, Of joy that hath no ending, of love which cannot cease. “Come unto Me, dear children, and I will give you light.” O loving voice of Jesus, which comes to cheer the night! Our hearts are filled with sadness, and we had lost our way; But He hath brought us gladness and songs at break of day. “Come unto Me, ye fainting, and I will give you life.” O cheering voice of Jesus, which comes to aid our strife! The foe is stern and eager, the fight is fierce and long; But Thou hast made us mighty and stronger than the strong. “And whosoever cometh I will not cast him out.” O welcome voice of Jesus, which drives away our doubt, Which calls us, very sinners, unworthy though we be Of love so free and boundless, to come, dear Lord, to Thee.

  How sweetly flowed the Gospel’s sound From lips of gentleness and grace While listening thousands gathered round, And joy and gladness filled the place! From Heav’n He came, of Heav’n He spoke, To Heaven He led His followers’ way; Dark clouds of gloomy night He broke, Unveiling an immortal day. “Come, wanderers, to My Father’s home; Come, all ye weary ones, and rest.” Yes, sacred Teacher, we will come, Obey Thee, love Thee, and be blest.   I had wandered off from Heaven, On the mountains cold and gray, When I heard my Savior calling, To His lost sheep far away; How I listened as the tear drops Coursed adown like falling rain, While His tender words of promise, Made my spirit glad again. Refrain “Come, oh, come to Me,” said Jesus, Come and I will give you rest, I will take away the burden From the heavy laden breast. No matter who the wand’rer, Nor how far he’s gone astray, Behold, whosoever cometh, I will comfort him today.   With tearful eyes I look around; Life seems a dark and stormy sea; Yet, midst the gloom, I hear a sound, A heavenly whisper,“Come to Me.” It tells me of a place of rest; It tells me where my soul may flee: O to the weary, faint, oppressed, How sweet the bidding, “Come to Me.” When the poor heart with anguish learns That earthly props resigned must be, And from each broken cistern turns, It hears the accents, “Come to Me.” When against sin I strive in vain, And cannot from its yoke get free, Sinking beneath the heavy chain, The words arrest me, “Come to Me.” When nature shudders, loath to part From all I love, enjoy, and see; When a faint chill steals o’er my heart, A sweet voice utters, “Come to Me.” “Come, for all else must fall and die; Earth is no resting-place for thee; Heavenward direct thy weeping eye, I am thy Portion; come to Me.” O voice of mercy! voice of love!
