• [Mat 25:41] And Will The Judge Descend?

  And will the Judge descend, And must the dead arise And not a single soul escape His all discerning eyes? And from His righteous lips Shall this dread sentence sound And through the numerous guilty throng Spread black despair around: “Depart from Me, accursed, To everlasting flame, For rebel angels first prepared, Where mercy never came”? How will my heart endure The terrors of that day When earth and Heav’n before His face Astonished shrink away? But ere that trumpet shakes The mansions of the dead, Hark from the Gospel’s cheering sound What joyful tidings spread: Ye sinners, seek His grace Whose wrath ye cannot bear; Fly to the shelter of His cross And find salvation there. So shall that curse remove, By which the Savior bled; And the last awful day shall pour His blessings on your head.

• [Mat 25:41] That Awful Day Will Surely Come

  That awful day will surely come, Th’appointed hour makes haste, When I must stand before my Judge, And pass the solemn test. Thou lovely Chief of all my joys, Thou Sovereign of my heart! How could I bear to hear Thy voice Pronounce the sound, “Depart!” The thunder of that dismal word Would so torment my ear, ’Twould tear my soul asunder, Lord, With most tormenting fear. What! to be banished from my Life, And yet forbid to die! To linger in eternal pain, Yet death forever fly! O, wretched state of deep despair! To see my God remove, And fix my doleful station where I must not taste His love. Jesus, I throw my arms around, And hang upon Thy breast; Without a gracious smile from Thee My spirit cannot rest. O, tell me that my worthless name Is graven on Thy hands; Show me some promise in Thy book Where my salvation stands! Give me one kind assuring word To sink my fears again, And cheerfully my soul shall wait Her threescore years and ten.

• [Mat 25:41] Woe To The Men On Earth Who Dwell

  Woe to the men on earth who dwell, Nor dread the Almighty’s frown, When God doth all His wrath reveal, And shower His judgments down! Sinners, expect those heaviest showers, To meet your God prepare; For, lo! the seventh angel pours His phial in the air. Lo! from their seats the mountains leap, The mountains are not found; Transported far into the deep, And in the ocean drowned. Who then shall live, and face the throne, And face the Judge severe? When heaven and earth are fled and gone, O where shall I appear? Now, only now, against that hour We may a place provide; Beyond the grave, beyond the power Of hell, our spirits hide: Firm in the all destroying shock, May view the final scene; For, lo! the everlasting Rock Is cleft to take us in.

• [Mat 28:11] Come Unto Me

  Hear the blessèd Savior calling the oppressed, “O ye heavy laden, come to Me and rest. Come, no longer tarry, I your load will bear, Bring Me every burden, bring Me every care.” Refrain Come unto Me, I will give you rest; Take My yoke upon you, hear Me and be blessed. I am meek and lowly, come and trust My might. Come, My yoke is easy, and My burden’s light. Are you disappointed, wandering here and there, Dragging chains of doubt and loaded down with care? Do unholy feelings struggle in your breast? Bring your case to Jesus—He will give you rest. Refrain Stumbling on the mountains dark with sin and shame, Stumbling toward the pit of hell’s consuming flame. By the powers of sin deluded and oppressed, Hear the tender Shepherd, “Come to Me and rest.” Refrain Have you by temptation often conquered been, Has a sense of weakness brought distress within? Christ will sanctify you, if you’ll claim His best. In the Holy Spirit, He will give you rest. Refrain

  Come unto Me, when shadows darkly gather, When the sad heart is weary and distressed; Seeking for comfort from your heavenly Father, Come unto Me, and I will give you rest. Ye who have mourned when the spring flowers were taken When the ripe fruit fell richly to the ground, When the loved slept, in brighter homes to waken, Where their pale brows with spirit-wreaths are crowned, Large are the mansions in thy Father’s dwelling; Glad are the homes that sorrows never dim; Sweet are the harps in holy music swelling; Soft are the tones which raise the heavenly hymn. There, like an Eden blossoming in gladness, Bloom the fair flowers the earth too rudely pressed; Come unto Me, all ye who droop in sadness, Come unto Me, and I will give you rest.

  “Come unto Me, ye weary, and I will give you rest.” O blessèd voice of Jesus, which comes to hearts oppressed! It tells of benediction, of pardon, grace and peace, Of joy that hath no ending, of love which cannot cease. “Come unto Me, dear children, and I will give you light.” O loving voice of Jesus, which comes to cheer the night! Our hearts are filled with sadness, and we had lost our way; But He hath brought us gladness and songs at break of day. “Come unto Me, ye fainting, and I will give you life.” O cheering voice of Jesus, which comes to aid our strife! The foe is stern and eager, the fight is fierce and long; But Thou hast made us mighty and stronger than the strong. “And whosoever cometh I will not cast him out.” O welcome voice of Jesus, which drives away our doubt, Which calls us, very sinners, unworthy though we be Of love so free and boundless, to come, dear Lord, to Thee.

  How sweetly flowed the Gospel’s sound From lips of gentleness and grace While listening thousands gathered round, And joy and gladness filled the place! From Heav’n He came, of Heav’n He spoke, To Heaven He led His followers’ way; Dark clouds of gloomy night He broke, Unveiling an immortal day. “Come, wanderers, to My Father’s home; Come, all ye weary ones, and rest.” Yes, sacred Teacher, we will come, Obey Thee, love Thee, and be blest. Decay, then, tenements of dust! Pillars of earthly pride, decay! A nobler mansion waits the just, And Jesus has prepared the way.

  I had wandered off from Heaven, On the mountains cold and gray, When I heard my Savior calling, To His lost sheep far away; How I listened as the tear drops Coursed adown like falling rain, While His tender words of promise, Made my spirit glad again. Refrain “Come, oh, come to Me,” said Jesus, Come and I will give you rest, I will take away the burden From the heavy laden breast. No matter who the wand’rer, Nor how far he’s gone astray, Behold, whosoever cometh, I will comfort him today. I was working in the temple With the Savior by my side, Where the multitude assembled, In its misery and pride; Glancing upward from my labor I just caught His distant smile, “You have placed your work between us, Come and talk with Me awhile.” Refrain Many early friends had left me, While the vacant room and chair, Were reminders of the prices I had paid down to be there; I was brooding o’er my losses When the Savior spoke to me, “You have let your sorrows settle, Like a cloud ’tween Me and thee.” Refrain Then I saw at once that Jesus Could be better far than all; He could lighten up the pathway, Could surround me like a wall; He could take the place of loved ones, Wipe the falling tears away, Turn my sorrows into laughter, Change the night-tide into day. • [Mat 28:11] With Tearful Eyes I Look Around

  With tearful eyes I look around; Life seems a dark and stormy sea; Yet, midst the gloom, I hear a sound, A heavenly whisper,“Come to Me.” It tells me of a place of rest; It tells me where my soul may flee: O to the weary, faint, oppressed, How sweet the bidding, “Come to Me.” When the poor heart with anguish learns That earthly props resigned must be, And from each broken cistern turns, It hears the accents, “Come to Me.” When against sin I strive in vain, And cannot from its yoke get free, Sinking beneath the heavy chain, The words arrest me, “Come to Me.” When nature shudders, loath to part From all I love, enjoy, and see; When a faint chill steals o’er my heart, A sweet voice utters, “Come to Me.” “Come, for all else must fall and die; Earth is no resting-place for thee; Heavenward direct thy weeping eye, I am thy Portion; come to Me.” O voice of mercy! voice of love! In conflict, grief, and agony, Support me, cheer me from above, And gently whisper, “Come to Me.”
