Nehemiah 9:27-28
Context9:27 Therefore you delivered them into the hand of their adversaries, who oppressed them. But in the time of their distress they called to you, and you heard from heaven. In your abundant compassion you provided them with deliverers to rescue them from 1 their adversaries.
9:28 “Then, when they were at rest again, they went back to doing evil before you. Then you abandoned them to 2 their enemies, and they gained dominion over them. When they again cried out to you, in your compassion you heard from heaven and rescued them time and again.

Context10:29 hereby participate with their colleagues the town leaders 3 and enter into a curse and an oath 4 to adhere to 5 the law of God which was given through Moses the servant of God, and to obey 6 carefully all the commandments of the LORD our Lord, 7 along with his ordinances and his statutes.

[9:28] 2 tn Heb “in the hand of” (so KJV, ASV); NAB “to the power of.”
[10:29] 3 tn Heb “the nobles.”
[10:29] 4 tn The expression “a curse and an oath” may be a hendiadys, meaning “an oath with penalties.”
[10:29] 5 tn Heb “to walk in.”
[10:29] 6 tn Heb “keep.” See the note on the word “obey” in Neh 1:5.
[10:29] 7 tn The Hebrew term translated “Lord” here is אֲדֹנָי (’adonay).
