[21:3]  1 tc Smr, Greek, and Syriac add “into his hand.”

[21:3]  2 tn In the Hebrew text the verb has no expressed subject, and so here too is made passive. The name “Hormah” is etymologically connected to the verb “utterly destroy,” forming the popular etymology (or paronomasia, a phonetic wordplay capturing the significance of the event).

[23:15]  3 tn Heb “and it will be as every good word which the Lord your God spoke to you has come to pass.”

[23:15]  4 tn Heb “so the Lord will bring every injurious [or “evil”] word [or “thing”] upon you.”

[23:16]  5 tn Heb “when you violate the covenant of the Lord your God which he commanded you.”

[23:16]  6 tn Heb “and you walk and serve other gods and bow down to them.”

[23:16]  7 tn Or “perish.”
