The Summary of Families

3:17 These were the sons ¹  of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Numbers 26:14

26:14 These were the families of the Simeonites, 22,200. ²

26:27 These were the families of the Zebulunites, according to those numbered of them, 60,500. ³

[3:17]  ¹ tn The word “sons of” does at the outset refer to the sons of Levi. But as the listing continues the expression refers more to the family groups of the various descendants.

[26:14]  ² sn Before entering Sinai the tribe numbered 59,300, the third largest. Now it was about one-third its original size.

[26:27]  ³ sn The Zebulunites showed a slight increase from 57,400 to 60,500.
