Numbers 34:18

34:18 You must take one leader from every ¹  tribe to assist in allocating the land as an inheritance. ² 

Numbers 36:7

36:7 In this way the inheritance of the Israelites will not be transferred ³  from tribe to tribe. But every one of the Israelites must retain the ancestral heritage.

Numbers 36:9

36:9 No inheritance may pass from tribe to tribe. But every one of the tribes of the Israelites must retain its inheritance.”

[34:18]  ¹ tn This sense is created by repetition: “one leader, one leader from the tribe.”

[34:18]  ² tn The sentence simply uses לִנְחֹל (linkhol, “to divide, apportion”). It has been taken already to mean “allocate as an inheritance.” Here “assist” may be added since Joshua and Eleazar had the primary work.

[36:7]  ³ tn Heb “turned aside.”
