Philippians 1:30

1:30 since you are encountering ¹  the same conflict that you saw me face and now hear that I am facing. ² 

Philippians 4:12

4:12 I have experienced times of need and times of abundance. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment, ³  whether I go satisfied or hungry, have plenty or nothing.

[1:30]  ¹ tn Grk “having,” most likely as an instrumental participle. Thus their present struggle is evidence that they have received the gift of suffering.

[1:30]  ² tn Grk “that you saw in me and now hear [to be] in me.”

[4:12]  ³ tn The words “of contentment” are not in the Greek text, but are implied by Paul’s remarks at the end of v. 11.
