2:16 by holding on to ¹  the word of life so that on the day of Christ I will have a reason to boast that I did not run in vain nor labor in vain.

Philippians 4:3

[1:20]  ² tn Grk “according to my eager expectation and hope.” The κατά (kata) phrase is taken as governing the following ὅτι (Joti) clause (“that I will not be ashamed…”); the idea could be expressed more verbally as “I confidently hope that I will not be ashamed…”

[1:20]  ³ tn Or possibly, “be intimidated, be put to shame.”

[1:20]  ⁴ tn Grk “whether by life or by death.”

[4:3]  ³ tn Or “faithful fellow worker.” This is more likely a descriptive noun, although some scholars interpret the word σύζυγος (suzugos) here as a proper name (“Syzygos”), L&N 42.45.

[4:3]  ⁴ tn Grk “in the gospel,” a metonymy in which the gospel itself is substituted for the ministry of making the gospel known.
