• [Pro 14:26] Beneath The Cross Of Jesus

  Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand, The shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land; A home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way, From the burning of the noontide heat, and the burden of the day. O safe and happy shelter, O refuge tried and sweet, O trysting place where Heaven’s love and Heaven’s justice meet! As to the holy patriarch that wondrous dream was given, So seems my Savior’s cross to me, a ladder up to heaven. There lies beneath its shadow but on the further side The darkness of an awful grave that gapes both deep and wide And there between us stands the cross two arms outstretched to save A watchman set to guard the way from that eternal grave. Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see The very dying form of One Who suffered there for me; And from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess; The wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness. I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place; I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face; Content to let the world go by to know no gain or loss, My sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.

  In grief and fear, to Thee, O Lord, We now for succor fly, Thine awful judgments are abroad, O shield us, lest we die! The fell disease on every side Walks forth with tainted breath; And pestilence, with rapid stride, Bestrews the land with death. O look with pity on the scene Of sadness and of dread, And let Thine angel stand between The living and the dead! With contrite hearts to Thee, our King We turn, who oft have strayed; Accept the sacrifice we bring, And let the plague be stayed.

• [Psa 91:3] They Have Gone To The Land

  They have gone to the land where the patriarchs rest, Where the bones of the prophets are laid, Where the chosen of Israel the promise possessed, And Jehovah His mandate displayed. To the land where the Savior of sinners once trod, Where He labored and languished and died; Where He triumphed o’er death and ascended to God, As He captive captivity led. They have gone to the land where the Gospel’s glad sound Sweetly tuned by the angels above Was re-echoed on earth thro’ the regions around, In the accents of heavenly love. Where the Spirit descended in tokens of flame, The rich gifts of His grace to reveal; Where apostles wrought signs in Immanuel’s name, For the truth of their mission to seal. They have gone—the glad heralds of mercy—have gone, To the land where the martyrs once bled; Where the beasts and false prophet have since trodden down, The fair fabric that Zion had reared. Where the churches once planted, and watered, and blessed, With the dews of the Spirit distilled, Have been smitten, despoiled! and by heathen possessed, And the places that knew them defiled. They have gone, O Thou Shepherd of Israel! have gone, The glad mission in love to restore; Thou wilt never forsake them or leave them alone, Thy rich blessings we humbly implore. Let Thy blessing go with them—O be Thou their Shield From the shafts of the fowler that fly; O Thou Savior of sinners! Thine arm be revealed In Thy mercy and might from on high.

Psalms 91:9-10

• [Psa 91:9] Because Thy Trust Is God Alone

  Because thy trust is God alone, Thy refuge is the Highest One; No evil shall upon thee come, Nor plague approach thy guarded home. Angelic guards at His commands Will bear thee safely in their hands, Will keep thee, lest, if left alone, Thou dash thy foot against a stone. Though fierce and treacherous foes assail, Their power and wrath shall not prevail; Their cruel strength, their venomed spite, Thou shalt o’ercome with conquering might. Because on Me he set his love, I will his constant Savior prove, And since to him My Name is known, I will exalt him as Mine own. As oft as he shall call me on Me, Most gracious shall My answer be; I will be with him in distress, And in his trouble I will bless. Complete deliverance I will give, And honor him while he shall live; Abundant life I will bestow, To him, My full salvation show.

• [Psa 91:9] Ye Sons Of Men, A Feeble Race

  Ye sons of men, a feeble race, Exposed to every snare, Come, make the Lord your dwelling place, And try and trust His care. No ill shall enter where you dwell; Or if the plague come nigh, And sweep the wicked down to hell, ’Twill raise His saints on high. He’ll give His angels charge to keep Your feet in all their ways; To watch your pillow while you sleep, And guard your happy days. Their hands shall bear you, lest you fall And dash against the stones: Are they not servants at His call, And sent t’attend His sons? Adders and lions ye shall tread; The tempter’s wiles defeat; He that hath broke the serpent’s head Puts him beneath your feet. “Because on Me they set their love, I’ll save them,” saith the Lord; “I’ll bear their joyful souls above Destruction and the sword. “My grace shall answer when they call, In trouble I’ll be nigh; My power shall help them when they fall, And raise them when they die. “They that on earth My Name have known I’ll honor them in Heav’n; There My salvation shall be shown, And endless live be giv’n.”

• [Hab 3:17] What Our Father Does Is Well

  What our Father does is well; Blessèd truth His children tell! Though He send, for plenty, want, Though the harvest-store be scant, Yet we rest upon His love, Seeking better things above. What our Father does is well; Shall the willful heart rebel? If a blessing He withhold In the field, or in the fold, Is it not Himself to be All our store eternally? What our Father does is well; Though He sadden hill and dell, Upward yet our praises rise For the strength His Word supplies; He has called us sons of God, Can we murmur at His rod? What our Father does is well; May the thought within us dwell; Though nor milk nor honey flow In our barren Canaan now, God can save us in our need, God can bless us, God can feed. Therefore unto Him we raise Hymns of glory, songs of praise; To the Father, and the Son, And the Spirit, Three in One, Honor, might, and glory be Now, and through eternity.
