Psalms 147:10-11

Context

147:10 He is not enamored with the strength of a horse,

nor is he impressed by the warrior’s strong legs. 1 

147:11 The Lord takes delight in his faithful followers, 2 

and in those who wait for his loyal love.

Malachi 1:10

1:10 “I wish that one of you would close the temple doors, 3  so that you no longer would light useless fires on my altar. I am not pleased with you,” says the Lord who rules over all, “and I will no longer accept an offering from you.

[147:10]  1 tn Heb “he does not desire the strength of the horse, he does not take delight in the legs of the man.” Here “the horse” refers to the war horse used by ancient Near Eastern chariot forces, and “the man” refers to the warrior whose muscular legs epitomize his strength.

[147:11]  2 tn Heb “those who fear him.”

[1:10]  3 sn The rhetorical language suggests that as long as the priesthood and people remain disobedient, the temple doors may as well be closed because God is not “at home” to receive them or their worship there.
