Ezekiel 3:20

Context

3:20 “When a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I set an obstacle 6  before him, he will die. If you have not warned him, he will die for his sin. The righteous deeds he performed will not be considered, but I will hold you accountable for his death.

Ezekiel 18:24

Context

18:24 “But if a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and practices wrongdoing according to all the abominable practices the wicked carry out, will he live? All his righteous acts will not be remembered; because of the unfaithful acts he has done and the sin he has committed, he will die. 7 

Ezekiel 33:12-13

Context

33:12 “And you, son of man, say to your people, 8  ‘The righteousness of the righteous will not deliver him if he rebels. 9  As for the wicked, his wickedness will not make him stumble if he turns from it. 10  The righteous will not be able to live by his righteousness 11  if he sins.’ 12  33:13 Suppose I tell the righteous that he will certainly live, but he becomes confident in his righteousness and commits iniquity. None of his righteous deeds will be remembered; because of the iniquity he has committed he will die.

Ezekiel 33:18

[36:3]  1 tn Heb “he ceases to exhibit wisdom to do good.” The Hiphil forms are exhibitive, indicating the outward expression of an inner attitude.

[125:5]  2 tn Heb “and the ones making their paths twisted.” A sinful lifestyle is compared to a twisting, winding road.

[125:5]  3 tn Heb “lead them away.” The prefixed verbal form is understood as a jussive of prayer here (note the prayers directly before and after this). Another option is to translate, “the Lord will remove them” (cf. NIV, NRSV).

[125:5]  4 tn Heb “the workers of wickedness.”

[125:5]  5 tn Heb “peace [be] upon Israel.” The statement is understood as a prayer (see Ps 122:8 for a similar prayer for peace).

[3:20]  6 tn Or “stumbling block.” The Hebrew term refers to an obstacle in the road in Lev 19:14.

[18:24]  7 tn Heb “because of them he will die.”

[33:12]  8 tn Heb “the sons of your people.”

[33:12]  9 tn Heb “in the day of his rebellion.” The statement envisions a godly person rejecting what is good and becoming sinful. See D. I. Block, Ezekiel (NICOT), 2:247-48.

[33:12]  10 tn Heb “and the wickedness of the wicked, he will not stumble in it in the day of his turning from his wickedness.”

[33:12]  11 tn Heb “by it.”

[33:12]  12 tn Heb “in the day of his sin.”

[1:6]  13 tn Heb “turn back from [following] after.”

[1:6]  14 tn Heb “who do not seek the Lord and do not inquire of him.” The present translation assumes the first verb refers to praying for divine help and the second to seeking his revealed will through an oracle. Note the usage of the two verbs in 2 Chr 20:3-4.
