[109:10] 2 tn Heb “and roaming, may his children roam and beg, and seek from their ruins.” Some, following the LXX, emend the term וְדָרְשׁוּ (vÿdoreshu, “and seek”) to יְגֹרְשׁוּ (yÿgoreshu; a Pual jussive, “may they be driven away” [see Job 30:5; cf. NIV, NRSV]), but דָּרַשׁ (darash) nicely parallels שִׁאֵלוּ (shi’elu, “and beg”) in the preceding line.
[107:27] 3 tn Only here does the Hebrew verb חָגַג (khagag; normally meaning “to celebrate”) carry the nuance “to sway.”
[107:27] 4 tn The Hitpael of בָלַע (vala’) occurs only here in the OT. Traditionally the form is derived from the verbal root בלע (“to swallow”), but HALOT 135 s.v. III בלע understands a homonym here with the meaning “to be confused.”
[109:25] 5 tn Heb “as for me, I am a reproach to them.”
[109:25] 6 sn They shake their heads. Apparently shaking the head was a taunting gesture. See also Job 16:4; Ps 22:7; Lam 2:15.
[22:7] 7 tn Or “scoff at, deride, mock.”
[22:7] 8 tn Heb “they separate with a lip.” Apparently this refers to their verbal taunting.
[22:7] 9 sn Shake their heads. Apparently this refers to a taunting gesture. See also Job 16:4; Ps 109:25; Lam 2:15.
[59:11] 9 tn Heb “do not kill them, lest my people forget.”
[59:11] 10 tn Heb “make them roam around by your strength and bring them down, O our shield, the Lord.”
[59:15] 11 tn Heb “if they are not full, they stay through the night.”
