• [Psa 119:30] Christ In His Word Draws Near

  Christ in His Word draws near; Hush, moaning voice of fear, He bids thee cease; With songs sincere and sweet Let us arise, and meet Him Who comes forth to greet Our souls with peace. Rising above thy care, Meet Him as in the air, O weary heart; Put on joy’s sacred dress; Lo, as He comes to bless, Quite from thy weariness Set free thou art. For works of love and praise He brings thee summer days, Warm days and bright; Winter is past and gone, Now He, salvation’s Sun, Shineth on every one With mercy’s light. From the bright sky above, Clad in His robes of love, ’Tis He, our Lord! Dim earth itself grows clear As His light draweth near; O let us hush and hear His holy Word.

  Give me the Bible, star of gladness gleaming, To cheer the wand’rer lone and tempest tossed; No storm can hide that radiance peaceful beaming, Since Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Refrain Give me the Bible, holy message shining; Thy light shall guide me in the narrow way; Precept and promise, law and love combining, Till night shall vanish in eternal day. Give me the Bible, when my heart is broken, When sin and grief have filled my soul with fear; Give me the precious words by Jesus spoken, Hold up faith’s lamp to show my Savior near.   The Voice of God’s Creation found me Perplexed midst hope and fear, For though His sunshine flashed around me, His storms at times drew near: And I said— Oh! that I knew where He abideth! For doubts beset our lot, And lo! His glorious face He hideth, And men perceive it not! The Voice of God’s Protection told me He loveth all He made; I seemed to feel His arms enfold me, And yet was half afraid: And I said— Oh! that I knew where I might find Him! His eye would guide me right: He leaveth countless tracks behind Him, Yet passeth out of sight. The Voice of Conscience sounded nearer, It stirred my inmost breast; But though its tones were firmer, clearer, ’Twas not the voice of rest: And I said— Oh! that I knew if He forgiveth! My soul is faint within, Because in grievous fear it liveth Of wages due to sin. It was the Voice of Revelation That met my utmost need; The wondrous message of salvation Was joy and peace indeed: And I said— Oh! how I love the sacred pages From which such tidings flow, As monarchs, patriarchs, poets, sages, Have longed in vain to know! For now is life a lucid story, And death a rest in Him, And all is bathed in light and glory That once was dark or dim: And I said— O Thou Who dost my soul deliver, And all its hopes uplift; Give me a tongue praise the Giver, A heart to prize the gift.

• [Psa 16:8] I Set The Lord Before My Face

  I set the Lord before my face, He bears my courage up; My heart and tongue their joys express, My flesh shall rest in hope. My spirit, Lord, Thou wilt not leave Where souls departed are; Nor quit my body to the grave, To see corruption there. Thou wilt reveal the path of life, And raise me to Thy throne; Thy courts immortal pleasure give, Thy presence joys unknown. Thus, in the name of Christ, the Lord, The holy David sung; And Providence fulfills the word Of his prophetic tongue. Jesus, whom every saint adores, Was crucified and slain: Behold, the tomb its prey restores! Behold, He lives again! When shall my feet arise and stand On Heav’n’s eternal hills? There sits the Son at God’s right hand, And there the Father smiles.

  Quiet, Lord, my froward heart, Make me teachable and mild, Upright, simple, free from art, Make me as a weanèd child: From distrust and envy free, Pleased with all that pleases Thee. What Thou shalt today provide, Let me as a child receive; What tomorrow may betide, Calmly to Thy wisdom leave: ’Tis enough that Thou wilt care, Why should I the burden bear? As a little child relies On a care beyond his own; Knows he’s neither strong nor wise, Fears to stir a step alone: Let me thus with Thee abide, As my Father, Guard, and Guide. Thus preserved from Satan’s wiles, Safe from dangers, free from fears; May I live upon Thy smiles, Till the promised hour appears; When the sons of God shall prove All their Father’s boundless love.

• [Psa 89:19] In Vision To His Saints God Spake

  In vision to His saints God spake: “From out the people one I take, A mighty leader, true and brave, Ordained, exalted, strong to save. My chosen servant I appoint, With holy oil his head anoint; My hand with him shall still remain, My arm his strength shall well sustain. “No enemy shall him affright, His adversaries I will smite, My faithfulness to him will prove, And nevermore My grace remove. Yea, he shall triumph in My Name, And great shall be his power and fame, From sea to sea his mighty hand Shall hold dominion o’er the land. “‘Thou art my Father,’ he shall cry, ‘My God, my Rock of refuge high’; My firstborn son shall he be owned, Above the kings of earth enthroned. For him My mercy shall endure, My covenant with him is sure; His throne and race I will maintain, Forever, while the heavens remain. “Should sons of his My laws forsake, My just commands and statutes break, Then, though My rod their sins reprove, My mercy I will not remove. Though they be chastened sore and tried, My faithfulness shall yet abide; My plighted word I will not break, Nor change the promise that I spake. “My oath is steadfast, ever sure, My servant’s race shall still endure; His throne forever firm shall stay When sun and moon have passed away.” On Thine anointed wrath is poured As if Thy covenant were abhorred; Thou hast profaned his kingly crown, His matchless strength is broken down. He is reproached and spoiled of all, His enemies upon him fall; His beauty is consumed away, Forgotten is his kingly sway. Cut off in youth, his sacred name Is covered now with deepest shame; How long, O Lord, shall wrath abide? Thy face forever wilt Thou hide? Think on my life; O Lord, take thought; Hast Thou created man for naught? What man that lives has power to save His soul from death, and from the grave? Where are Thy mercies which of old Were in Thy promises foretold? Remember, Lord, the bitter shame Heaped on Thine own anointed’s name. I sing of mercies that endure Forever builded firm and sure, Of faithfulness that never dies, Established changeless in the skies. Blest be the Lord forevermore, Whose promise stands from days of yore. His word is faithful now as then; Blest be His Name. Amen, Amen.
