147:18 He then orders it all to melt; ¹ 

he breathes on it, ²  and the water flows.

Psalms 6:6

6:6 I am exhausted as I groan;

all night long I drench my bed in tears; ³

Psalms 39:11

39:11 You severely discipline people for their sins; ⁵ 

like a moth you slowly devour their strength. ⁶

[39:11]  ⁵ tn “with punishments on account of sin you discipline a man.”

[39:11]  ⁶ tc Heb “you cause to dissolve, like a moth, his desired [thing].” The translation assumes an emendation of חֲמוּדוֹ (khamudo, “his desirable [thing]”) to חֶמְדוֹ (khemdo, “his loveliness” [or “beauty”]), a reading that is supported by a few medieval Hebrew mss.
