• [Psa 16:1] God, Keep Me Safe

  God, keep me safe; in You I refuge take. You are my Lord; I have no good elsewhere. The hearts of all idolaters will ache; In all their sacrifices I’ll not share. Lord, my inheritance You have assigned; You guard what’s mine and make me feel secure. Your boundary lines are pleasant to my mind; Your future blessings will bring joy for sure. Lord, I will praise You for Your counsel wise; Even at night my heart tells me Your way. I’ll always set You first before my eyes; You’re right beside me; I won’t be afraid. My heart is glad; my tongue rejoices e’er; I know You will not leave me when I die. The path of life to me You will declare; You’ll fill me with eternal joy on high.

  O God, preserve me, for in Thee Alone my trust has stood; My soul has said, Thou art my Lord, My chief and only good. I love Thy saints, who fear Thy Name, And walk as in Thy sight; They are the excellent of earth, In them is my delight. Their sorrows shall be multiplied Who worship aught but Thee; I share not in their offerings, Nor join their company. The Lord is mine inheritance, The Lord alone remains The fullness of my cup of bliss; The Lord my lot maintains.   Preserve me, Lord, in time of need; For succor to Thy throne I flee, But have no merits there to plead: My goodness cannot reach to Thee. Oft have my heart and tongue confessed How empty and how poor I am; My praise can never make Thee blessed, Nor add new glories to Thy Name. Yet, Lord, Thy saints on earth may reap Some profit by the good we do; These are the company I keep, These are the choicest friends I know. Let others choose the songs of mirth To give a relish to their wine; I love the men of heav’nly birth, Whose thoughts and language are divine.

  To Thee, O Lord, I fly And on Thy help depend; Thou art my Lord and King most high; Do Thou my soul defend. A heritage for me Jehovah will remain; My portion rich and full is He, My right He will maintain. The lot to me that fell Is beautiful and fair; The heritage in which I dwell Is good beyond compare. • [Psa 16:4] How Fast Their Guilt And Sorrows Rise

  How fast their guilt and sorrows rise Who haste to seek some idol-god! I will not taste their sacrifice, Their offerings of forbidden blood. My God provides a richer cup, And nobler food to live upon: He for my life has offered up Jesus, His best-belovèd Son. His love is my perpetual feast; By day His counsels guide me right; And be His Name for ever blessed, Who gives me sweet advice by night. I set Him still before mine eyes; At my right hand He stands prepared To keep my soul from all surprise And be my everlasting guard.

  God’s Word is our great heritage And shall be ours forever; To spread its light from age to age Shall be our chief endeavor. Through life it guides our way, In death it is our stay. Lord, grant while words endure, We keep its teachings pure Throughout all generations.

• [Psa 16:8] I Set The Lord Before My Face

  I set the Lord before my face, He bears my courage up; My heart and tongue their joys express, My flesh shall rest in hope. My spirit, Lord, Thou wilt not leave Where souls departed are; Nor quit my body to the grave, To see corruption there. Thou wilt reveal the path of life, And raise me to Thy throne; Thy courts immortal pleasure give, Thy presence joys unknown. Thus, in the name of Christ, the Lord, The holy David sung; And Providence fulfills the word Of his prophetic tongue. Jesus, whom every saint adores, Was crucified and slain: Behold, the tomb its prey restores! Behold, He lives again! When shall my feet arise and stand On Heav’n’s eternal hills? There sits the Son at God’s right hand, And there the Father smiles.

  When God is nigh, my faith is strong; His arm is my almighty prop: Be glad, my heart; rejoice, my tongue; My dying flesh shall rest in hope. Though in the dust I lay my head, Yet, gracious God, Thou wilt not leave My soul for ever with the dead, Nor lose Thy children in the grave. My flesh shall thy first call obey, Shake off the dust, and rise on high; Then shalt Thou lead the wondrous way Up to Thy throne above the sky. There streams of endless pleasures flow; And full discoveries of Thy grace, Which we but tasted here below, Spread heav’nly joys through all the place.
