Psalms 22:22-25

22:22 I will declare your name to my countrymen! ¹ 

In the middle of the assembly I will praise you!

22:23 You loyal followers of the Lord, ²  praise him!

All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!

All you descendants of Israel, stand in awe of him! ³ 

22:24 For he did not despise or detest the suffering ⁴  of the oppressed; ⁵ 

he did not ignore him; ⁶ 

when he cried out to him, he responded. ⁷ 

22:25 You are the reason I offer praise ⁸  in the great assembly;

40:9 I have told the great assembly ¹²  about your justice. ¹³

2:12 saying, “I will proclaim your name to my brothers; ²³  in the midst of the assembly I will praise you.” ²⁴ 

[22:22]  ¹ tn Or “brothers,” but here the term does not carry a literal familial sense. It refers to the psalmist’s fellow members of the Israelite covenant community (see v. 23).

[40:9]  ¹³ tn Heb “I proclaim justice in the great assembly.” Though “justice” appears without a pronoun here, the Lord’s just acts are in view (see v. 10). His “justice” (צֶדֶק, tsedeq) is here the deliverance that originates in his justice; he protects and vindicates the one whose cause is just.

[111:1]  ²² sn Psalm 111. The psalmist praises God for his marvelous deeds, especially the way in which he provides for and delivers his people. The psalm is an acrostic. After the introductory call to praise, every poetic line (twenty-two in all) begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

[2:12]  ²³ tn Here, because of its occurrence in an OT quotation, τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς (tois adelfois) has been translated simply as “brothers” rather than “brothers and sisters” (see the note on the latter phrase in the previous verse).
