[22:31]  1 tn Heb “his righteousness.” Here the noun צִדָקָה (tsidaqah) refers to the Lord’s saving deeds whereby he vindicates the oppressed.

[22:31]  2 tn Heb “to a people [to be] born that he has acted.” The words “they will tell” are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[52:2]  3 tn Heb “destruction your tongue devises.”

[52:2]  4 tn Heb “like a sharpened razor, doer of deceit.” The masculine participle עָשָׂה (’asah) is understood as a substantival vocative, addressed to the powerful man.

[72:18]  5 tn Heb “[be] blessed.” See Pss 18:46; 28:6; 31:21; 41:13.

[72:18]  6 tn Heb “[the] one who does amazing things by himself.”

[78:12]  7 sn The region of Zoan was located in the Egyptian delta, where the enslaved Israelites lived (see Num 13:22; Isa 19:11, 13; 30:4; Ezek 30:14).

[83:9]  9 tn Heb “do to them like Midian.”

[83:9]  10 sn The psalmist alludes here to Gideon’s victory over the Midianites (see Judg 7-8) and to Barak’s victory over Jabin’s army, which was led by his general Sisera (Judg 4-5).

[96:5]  11 tn The Hebrew term אֱלִילִים (’elilim, “worthless”) sounds like אֱלֹהִים (’elohim, “gods”). The sound play draws attention to the statement.

[103:10]  13 tn Heb “not according to our sins does he do to us.”

[103:10]  14 tn Heb “and not according to our misdeeds does he repay us.”

[105:5]  15 tn Heb “and the judgments of his mouth.”

[118:16]  17 tn Heb “exalts.”

[118:24]  19 tn Heb “this is the day the Lord has made.” Though sometimes applied in a general way, this statement in its context refers to the day of deliverance which the psalmist and people celebrate.

[148:8]  21 tn In Ps 119:83 the noun refers to “smoke,” but here, where the elements of nature are addressed, the clouds, which resemble smoke, are probably in view.

[148:8]  22 tn Heb “[that] does his word.”
