[26:8]  1 tn Heb “the dwelling of your house.”

[26:8]  2 tn Heb “the place of the abode of your splendor.”

[26:9]  3 tn Heb “do not gather up my life with.”

[26:9]  4 tn Heb “or with men of bloodshed my life.” The verb is supplied; it is understood by ellipsis (see the preceding line).

[26:10]  5 tn Heb “who [have] in their hands evil.”

[26:10]  6 tn Heb “and their right hand is full of a bribe.”

[43:1]  7 sn Psalm 43. Many medieval Hebrew mss combine Psalm 43 and Psalm 42 into one psalm. Psalm 43 is the only psalm in Book 2 of the Psalter (Psalms 42-72) that does not have a heading, suggesting that it was originally the third and concluding section of Psalm 42. Ps 43:5 is identical to the refrain in Ps 42:11 and almost identical to the refrain in Ps 42:5.

[43:1]  8 tn Or “argue my case.”

[43:1]  9 tn The imperfect here expresses a request or wish. Note the imperatives in the first half of the verse. See also v. 3.

[43:1]  10 tn Heb “from the deceitful and evil man.” The Hebrew text uses the singular form “man” in a collective sense, as the reference to a “nation” in the parallel line indicates.

[55:23]  11 tn The pronominal suffix refers to the psalmist’s enemies (see v. 19).

[55:23]  12 tn Heb “well of the pit.” The Hebrew term שַׁחַת (shakhat, “pit”) is often used as a title for Sheol (see Pss 16:10; 30:9; 49:9; 103:4).

[55:23]  13 tn Heb “men of bloodshed and deceit.”

[55:23]  14 tn Heb “will not divide in half their days.”

[34:14]  15 tn Heb “we are not able to do this thing, to give.” The second infinitive is in apposition to the first, explaining what they are not able to do.

[34:14]  16 tn The Hebrew word translated “disgrace” usually means “ridicule; taunt; reproach.” It can also refer to the reason the condition of shame or disgrace causes ridicule or a reproach.

[34:25]  17 tn Heb “a man his sword.”

[34:25]  18 tn Heb “and they came upon the city, [which was] secure.” In this case “secure” means the city was caught unprepared and at peace, not expecting an attack.

[34:2]  19 tn Heb “and he took her and lay with her.” The suffixed form following the verb appears to be the sign of the accusative instead of the preposition, but see BDB 1012 s.v. שָׁכַב.

[34:2]  20 tn The verb עָנָה (’anah) in the Piel stem can have various shades of meaning, depending on the context: “to defile; to mistreat; to violate; to rape; to shame; to afflict.” Here it means that Shechem violated or humiliated Dinah by raping her.

[16:8]  21 tn Heb “from the presence of.”

[20:1]  22 tn Or “the South [country]”; Heb “the land of the Negev.”

[20:1]  23 tn Heb “and he sojourned.”

[26:21]  24 tn Heb “out of his place” (so KJV, ASV).

[26:21]  25 sn This implies that rampant bloodshed is one of the reasons for divine judgment. See the note at 24:5.

[1:29]  26 tn Grk “being filled” or “having been filled,” referring to those described in v. 28. Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.

[1:29]  27 tn Grk “malice, full of,” continuing the description. Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.
