Psalms 31:13

Context

31:13 For I hear what so many are saying, 1 

the terrifying news that comes from every direction. 2 

When they plot together against me,

they figure out how they can take my life.

31:18 May lying lips be silenced –

lips 3  that speak defiantly against the innocent 4 

with arrogance and contempt!

they aim their arrow, a slanderous charge, 6 

64:4 in order to shoot down the innocent 7  in secluded places.

Matthew 26:59-62

26:59 The 25  chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were trying to find false testimony against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 26:60 But they did not find anything, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally 26  two came forward 26:61 and declared, “This man 27  said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’” 26:62 So 28  the high priest stood up and said to him, “Have you no answer? What is this that they are testifying against you?”

Another option is that the language refers to the pointed or forked nature of a serpent’s tongue, which is viewed metaphorically as “sharpened.”
