44:16 before the vindictive enemy

who ridicules and insults me. ¹ 

Psalms 102:8

102:8 All day long my enemies taunt me;

those who mock me use my name in their curses. ² 

[44:16]  ¹ tn Heb “from the voice of one who ridicules and insults, from the face of an enemy and an avenger.” See Ps 8:2.

[102:8]  ² tn Heb “by me they swear.” When the psalmist’s enemies call judgment down on others, they hold the psalmist up as a prime example of what they desire their enemies to become.
