The seven poems of the celebrated Arabian poets who flourished before the time of Mohammed, called {MoÆ’llakat,} from being suspended on the walls of the temple of Mecca, were also called {Modhabat,} "golden," because they were written in letters of gold on the papyrus; and probably this is another reason why the six poems of David were called golden.

Some consider this Psalm to have been written by David on his accession to the throne over all Israel; others refer it to the time of the captivity, considering it as a continuation of the subject in the preceding; but Bp. This Psalm is supposed to have been called {al tashcheth,} or "destroy not," because David thus addressed one of his followers when about to kill Saul in the cave; and {michtam,} or "golden," because written, or worthy to be written, in gold.
