  Thou art my Rock in the wide desert land, Sheltered by Thee here in safety I stand; What tho’ the storms and the tempests may beat, What tho’ the sun pour its fierce noontide heat: Refrain Sheltered by Thee, sheltered by Thee, Here in the shadow from danger I’m free. Once I was wand’ring exposed to the storm, Refuge there was none to shield me from harm; Then ’twas I found in the broad desert way Christ as my Rock and with gladness could say: Refrain Come to the Rock so majestic and grand; Here in its shelter a million may stand; Each one may feel that his hope here is sure, Each one may say in his safety secure: Refrain

• [Psa 90:1] Lord, Thou Hast Been Our Dwelling Place

  Lord, Thou hast been our dwelling place Through all the ages of our race; Before the mountains had their birth, Or Thou hadst formed the earth; From everlasting Thou art God, To everlasting our abode. Man soon yields up his fleeting breath Before the swelling tide of death; Like transient sleep his seasons pass, His life is like the tender grass, Luxuriant ’neath the morning sun And withered ere the day is done. Man in Thine anger is consumed, And unto grief and sorrow doomed; Before Thy clear and searching sight Our secret sins are brought to light; Beneath Thy wrath we pine and die, Our life expiring like a sigh. For threescore years and ten we wait, Or fourscore years if strength be great; But grief and toil attend life’s day, And soon our spirits fly away; O who with true and reverent thought Can fear Thine anger as he ought? O teach Thou us to count our days And set our hearts on wisdom’s ways Turn, Lord, to us in our distress In pity now Thy servants bless; Let mercy’s dawn dispel our night, And all our day with joy be bright. O send the day of joy and light, For long has been our sorrow’s night; Afflicted through the weary years, We wait until Thy help appears; In all Thy children Thou abide, In us let God be glorified.   Lord, through all the generations Of the children of our race, In our fears and tribulations, Thou hast been our dwelling place. Ere the vast and wide creation By Thy word was caused to be, Or the mountains held their station, Thou art God eternally. Each succeeding generation At Thy mighty word appears; Thou dost count in time’s duration One day as a thousand years. Death, with swift and sudden warning, Calls us from life’s dream away, Like the grass, green in the morning, Withered ere the close of day. • [Psa 90:1] Our God, Our Help In Ages Past

  Our God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home. Under the shadow of Thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure; Sufficient is Thine arm alone, And our defense is sure. Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame, From everlasting Thou art God, To endless years the same. Thy Word commands our flesh to dust, “Return, ye sons of men:” All nations rose from earth at first, And turn to earth again. A thousand ages in Thy sight Are like an evening gone; Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun. The busy tribes of flesh and blood, With all their lives and cares, Are carried downwards by the flood, And lost in following years. Time, like an ever rolling stream, Bears all its sons away; They fly, forgotten, as a dream Dies at the opening day. Like flowery fields the nations stand Pleased with the morning light; The flowers beneath the mower’s hand Lie withering ere ‘tis night.
