Psalms 72:14

72:14 From harm and violence he will defend them; ¹ 

he will value their lives. ² 

Psalms 79:3

79:3 They have made their blood flow like water

all around Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury them. ³ 

[72:14]  ¹ tn Or “redeem their lives.” The verb “redeem” casts the Lord in the role of a leader who protects members of his extended family in times of need and crisis (see Pss 19:14; 69:18).

[72:14]  ² tn Heb “their blood will be precious in his eyes.”

[79:3]  ³ tn Heb “they have poured out their blood like water, all around Jerusalem, and there is no one burying.”
