Psalms 76:8

76:8 From heaven you announced what their punishment would be. ¹ 

The earth ²  was afraid and silent

Psalms 140:12

140:12 I know ³  that the Lord defends the cause of the oppressed

and vindicates the poor. ⁴ 

[76:8]  ¹ tn Heb “a [legal] decision,” or “sentence.”

[76:8]  ² tn “The earth” stands here by metonymy for its inhabitants.

[140:12]  ³ tc The translation follows the Qere and many medieval Hebrew mss in reading a first person verb form here. The Kethib reads the second person.

[140:12]  ⁴ tn Heb “and the just cause of the poor.”
