Psalms 78:48

78:48 He rained hail down on their cattle, ¹ 

and hurled lightning bolts down on their livestock. ² 

Psalms 76:3

76:3 There he shattered the arrows, ³ 

the shield, the sword, and the rest of the weapons of war. ⁴  (Selah)

[78:48]  ¹ tn Heb “and he turned over to the hail their cattle.”

[78:48]  ² tn Heb “and their livestock to the flames.” “Flames” here refer to the lightning bolts that accompanied the storm.

[76:3]  ³ tn Heb “flames of the bow,” i.e., arrows.

[76:3]  ⁴ tn Heb “shield and sword and battle.” “Battle” probably here stands by metonymy for the weapons of war in general.
