Psalms 8:8

8:8 the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea

[18:9]  2 tn The Hebrew verb נָטָה (natah) can carry the sense “[cause to] bend, bow down.” For example, Gen 49:15 pictures Issachar as a donkey that “bends” its shoulder or back under a burden. Here the Lord causes the sky, pictured as a dome or vault, to sink down as he descends in the storm.

[33:6]  3 tn Heb “word.”

[33:6]  4 tn Heb “and by the breath of his mouth all their host.” The words “were created” are added in the translation for stylistic reasons; they are understood by ellipsis (note “were made” in the preceding line). The description is consistent with Gen 1:16, which indicates that God spoke the heavenly luminaries into existence.

[50:6]  4 tn Or “justice.”

[50:6]  5 tn Or “for God, he is about to judge.” The participle may be taken as substantival (as in the translation above) or as a predicate (indicating imminent future action in this context).

[78:24]  5 sn Manna was apparently shaped like a seed (Exod 16:31), perhaps explaining why it is here compared to grain.
