Psalms 80:14

80:14 O God, invincible warrior, ¹  come back!

Look down from heaven and take notice!

Take care of this vine,

Psalms 128:5

128:5 May the Lord bless you ²  from Zion,

that you might see ³  Jerusalem ⁴  prosper

all the days of your life,

[80:14]  ¹ tn Heb “O God, hosts.” One expects the construct form אֱלֹהֵי before צְבָאוֹת (tsÿva’ot, “hosts”; see Ps 89:9), but יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים (yehvah ’elohim) precedes צְבָאוֹת (tsÿva’ot) in Pss 59:5 and 84:8 as well. See also vv. 4, 7 for a similar construction.

[128:5]  ² tn The prefixed verbal form is understood as a jussive of prayer (note the imperatives that are subordinated to this clause in vv. 5b-6a). Having described the blessings that typically come to the godly, the psalmist concludes by praying that this ideal may become reality for the representative godly man being addressed.

[128:5]  ³ tn The imperative with prefixed vav (ו) conjunctive indicates purpose/result after the preceding jussive.
