Psalms 89:3

89:3 The Lord said, 1 

“I have made a covenant with my chosen one;

I have made a promise on oath to David, my servant:

[89:3]  1 tn The words “the Lord said” are supplied in the translation for clarification. It is clear that the words of vv. 3-4 are spoken by the Lord, in contrast to vv. 1-2, which are spoken by the psalmist.

[89:35]  2 tn Or “lie to.”

[89:49]  3 sn The Lord’s faithful deeds are also mentioned in Pss 17:7 and 25:6.

[89:49]  4 tc Many medieval Hebrew mss read here יְהוָה (yehvah, “the Lord”).

[89:49]  5 tn Heb “[which] you swore on oath to David by your faithfulness.”

[95:11]  4 tn Heb “my resting place.” The promised land of Canaan is here viewed metaphorically as a place of rest for God’s people, who are compared to sheep (see v. 7).

[102:8]  5 tn Heb “by me they swear.” When the psalmist’s enemies call judgment down on others, they hold the psalmist up as a prime example of what they desire their enemies to become.
