[9:16]  1 tn Heb “by the work of his hands [the] wicked [one] was ensnared. The singular form רָשָׁע (rasha’, “wicked”) is collective or representative here (see vv. 15, 17). The form נוֹקֵשׁ (noqesh) appears to be an otherwise unattested Qal form (active participle) from נָקַשׁ (naqash), but the form should be emended to נוֹקַשׁ (noqash), a Niphal perfect from יָקַשׁ (yaqash).

[9:16]  2 tn This is probably a technical musical term.

[14:3]  3 tn Heb “everyone turns aside.”

[14:3]  4 tn Heb “together they are corrupt.”

[14:3]  5 tn Heb “there is none that does good.”

[37:7]  5 tn Heb “Be quiet before the Lord!”

[37:7]  6 tc The Hebrew text has וְהִתְחוֹלֵל (vÿhitkholel, Hitpolel of חִיל, khil, “writhe with fear, suffer”) but this idea fits awkwardly here. The text should be changed to וְתוֹחֵל (vÿtokhel; Hiphil of יָחַל, yakhal, “wait”). It appears that the Hebrew text is the product of dittography: (1) the initial וה (vav-he) is accidentally repeated from the preceding word (יְהוָה, yÿhvah) and (2) the final lamed (ל) is accidentally repeated (note the preceding lamed and the initial lamed on the following form, לו).

[37:7]  7 tn Heb “over one who causes his way to be successful.”

[53:3]  7 tn Heb “all of it turns away.” Ps 14:1 has הָכֹּל (hakkol) instead of כֻּלּוֹ, and סָר (sar, “turn aside”) instead of סָג (sag, “turn away”).

[53:3]  8 tn Heb “together they are corrupt.”

Another option is to understand the forms as future perfects (“for you, O Lord, will have helped me and comforted me”).

[101:3]  15 tn Heb “I will not set before my eyes a thing of worthlessness.”

[101:3]  16 tn Heb “the doing of swerving [deeds] I hate.” The Hebrew term סֵטִים (setim) is probably an alternate spelling of שֵׂטִים (setim), which appears in many medieval Hebrew mss. The form appears to be derived from a verbal root שׂוּט (sut, “to fall away; to swerve”; see Ps 40:4).

[101:3]  17 tn Heb “it [i.e., the doing of evil deeds] does not cling to me.”

[101:7]  17 tn Heb “he will not live in the midst of my house, one who does deceit.”

[101:7]  18 tn Heb “one who speaks lies will not be established before my eyes.”

[109:21]  19 tn Heb “but you, Lord, Master, do with me for the sake of your name.” Here “name” stands metonymically for God’s reputation.

[118:15]  21 tn Heb “the sound of a ringing shout and deliverance [is] in the tents of the godly.”

[118:15]  22 tn Heb “does valiantly.” The statement refers here to military success (see Num 24:18; 1 Sam 14:48; Pss 60:12; 108:13).

[146:6]  23 tn Heb “the one who guards faithfulness forever.”

[146:7]  25 tn Heb “executes justice for the oppressed.”
