• [Psa 95:6] Brethren, We Have Met To Worship

  Brethren, we have met to worship and adore the Lord our God; Will you pray with all your power, while we try to preach the Word? All is vain unless the Spirit of the Holy One comes down; Brethren, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around. Brethren, see poor sinners round you slumbering on the brink of woe; Death is coming, hell is moving, can you bear to let them go? See our fathers and our mothers, and our children sinking down; Brethren, pray and holy manna will be showered all around. Sisters, will you join and help us? Moses’ sister aided him; Will you help the trembling mourners who are struggling hard with sin? Tell them all about the Savior, tell them that He will be found; Sisters, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around. Is there here a trembling jailer, seeking grace, and filled with tears? Is there here a weeping Mary, pouring forth a flood of tears? Brethren, join your cries to help them; sisters, let your prayers abound; Pray, Oh pray that holy manna may be scattered all around. Let us love our God supremely, let us love each other, too; Let us love and pray for sinners, till our God makes all things new. Then He’ll call us home to Heaven, at His table we’ll sit down; Christ will gird Himself and serve us with sweet manna all around.

  Father, in Whom we live, in Whom we are and move, The glory, power and praise receive for Thy creating love. Let all the angel throng give thanks to God on high, While earth repeats the joyful song and echoes to the sky. Incarnate Deity, let all the ransomed race Render in thanks their lives to Thee for Thy redeeming grace. The grace to sinners showed ye heavenly choirs proclaim, And cry “Salvation to our God, salvation to the Lamb!” Spirit of Holiness, let all Thy saints adore Thy sacred energy, and bless Thine heart renewing power. Not angel tongues can tell Thy love’s ecstatic height, The glorious joy unspeakable the beatific sight. Eternal, Triune God, let all the hosts above, Let all on earth below record and dwell upon Thy love. When heaven and earth are fled before Thy glorious face, Sing all the saints Thy love hath made Thine everlasting praise.

  Jehovah, let me now adore Thee, For where is there a God, such, Lord, as Thou? With songs I fain would come before Thee; O let Thy Holy Spirit teach me now To praise Thee in His Name through Whom alone Our songs can please Thee, through Thy blessèd Son. O Father, draw me to my Savior That Thy dear Son may draw me unto Thee; Thy Spirit guide my whole behavior And rule both sense and reason thus in me, That, Lord, Thy peace I taste may ne’er depart, But wake sweet melodies within my heart. O joy! our hope and trust are founded On His sure Word, and witness in the heart; I know Thy mercies are unbounded, And all good gifts Thou freely wilt impart, Nay, more is lavished by Thou bounteous hand, Than we can ask or seek or understand.   My gracious Lord, I own Thy right To every service I can pay, And call it my supreme delight To hear Thy dictates, and obey. What is my being but for Thee, Its sure support, its noblest end? ’Tis my delight Thy face to see, And serve the cause of such a Friend. I would not sigh for worldly joy, Or to increase my worldly good; Nor future days nor powers employ To spread a sounding name abroad. ’Tis to my Savior I would live, To Him Who for my ransom died; Nor could all worldly honor give Such bliss as crowns me at His side. His work my hoary age shall bless, When youthful vigor is no more; And my last hour of life confess His dying love, His saving power.

  Save me, O God, because the floods Come in upon my soul; I sink in depths where none can stand; Deep waters, o’er me roll. My constant calling wearies me, My throat is parched and dried, My eyes grow dim while for my God Still waiting I abide. O God, my folly and my sin Thy holy eye can see; Yet save from shame, Lord God of hosts, Thy saints that wait on Thee. Forbid, O God, our covenant God, That those who seek Thy face Should see Thy servant put to shame And share in my disgrace. It is for Thee I am reproached, For Thee I suffer shame, Until my brethren know me not, And hated is my name. It is my zeal for Thine abode That has consumed my life; Reproached by those reproaching Thee, I suffer in the strife. I wept, with fasting bowed my soul, Yet that was made my shame; When I in sackcloth clothed myself, Their byword I became. The men who sit within the gate With slander do me wrong, And they who linger at their cups Make me their jest and song.

  Save me, O God, the swelling floods Break in upon my soul; I sink, and sorrows o’er my head Like mighty waters roll. I cry till all my voice be gone, In tears I waste the day: My God, behold my longing eyes, And shorten Thy delay. They hate my soul without a cause, And still their number grows More than the hairs around my head, And mighty are my foes. ’Twas then I paid that dreadful debt That men could never pay, And gave those honors to Thy law Which sinners took away. Thus in the great Messiah’s name, The royal prophet mourns; Thus he awakes our hearts to grief, And gives us joy by turns. Now shall the saints rejoice, and find Salvation in My Name; For I have borne their heavy load Of sorrow, pain, and shame. Grief, like a garment, clothed Me round, And sackcloth was My dress, While I procured for naked souls A robe of righteousness. Amongst My brethren and the Jews I like a stranger stood, And bore their vile reproach, to bring The Gentiles near to God. I came in sinful mortals’ stead, To do My Father’s will; Yet when I cleansed My Father’s house, They scandalized My zeal. My fasting and My holy groans Were made the drunkard’s song; But God, from His celestial throne, Heard My complaining tongue. He saved Me from the dreadful deep, Nor let My soul be drowned; He raised and fixed My sinking feet On well-established ground. ’Twas in a most accepted hour My prayer arose on high; And for My sake my God shall hear The dying sinner’s cry.

  Father, whate’er of earthly bliss Thy sovereign will denies, Accepted at Thy throne, let this My humble prayer, arise: Give me a calm and thankful heart, From every murmur free; The blessing of Thy grace impart, And make me live to Thee.   In Thy heritage the heathen Now, O God, triumphant stand; They defile Thy holy temple, They destroy Thy chosen land; Ruthless, they have slain Thy servants, They have caused Thy saints to mourn; In the sight of all about us We endure reproach and scorn. O how long against Thy people Shall Thine anger burn, O Lord?
