Revelation 11:17

11:17 with these words: ¹ 

“We give you thanks, Lord God, the All-Powerful, ² 

the one who is and who was,

because you have taken your great power

and begun to reign. ³ 

Revelation 18:16

18:16 saying,

“Woe, woe, O great city –

dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet clothing, ⁴ 

and adorned with gold, ⁵  precious stones, and pearls –

[11:17]  ² tn On this word BDAG 755 s.v. παντοκράτωρ states, “the Almighty, All-Powerful, Omnipotent (One) only of God…(ὁ) κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ π. …Rv 1:8; 4:8; 11:17; 15:3; 16:7; 21:22.”

[11:17]  ³ tn The aorist verb ἐβασίλευσας (ebasileusa") has been translated ingressively.

[18:16]  ⁴ tn The word “clothing” is supplied to clarify that the words “purple” and “scarlet” refer to cloth or garments rather than colors.

[18:16]  ⁵ tn Grk “gilded with gold” (an instance of semantic reinforcement, see L&N 49.29).
