Revelation 2:28
Context2:28 just as I have received the right to rule 1 from my Father – and I will give him the morning star. 2
Revelation 4:8
Context4:8 Each one of the four living creatures had six wings 3 and was full of eyes all around and inside. 4 They never rest day or night, saying: 5
“Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God, the All-Powerful, 6
Who was and who is, and who is still to come!”

[2:28] 1 tn What has been received is not specified in the Greek text, but must be supplied from the context. In the light of the two immediately preceding verses about rulership or dominion, it seems that the implied direct object of δώσω (dwsw) is “the right to rule” (i.e., ἔχειν ἐξουσίαν ποιμάνειν, ecein exousian poimanein), although many modern translations supply the word “authority” here (so NAB, NRSV, NLT).
[2:28] 2 tn On this expression BDAG 892 s.v. πρωϊνός states, “early, belonging to the morning ὁ ἀστὴρ ὁ πρ. the morning star, Venus Rv 2:28; 22:16.”
[4:8] 3 tn Grk “six wings apiece,” but this is redundant with “each one” in English.
[4:8] 4 tn Some translations render ἔσωθεν (eswqen) as “under [its] wings,” but the description could also mean “filled all around on the outside and on the inside with eyes.” Since the referent is not available to the interpreter, the exact force is difficult to determine.
[4:8] 5 tn Or “They never stop saying day and night.”
[4:8] 6 tn On this word BDAG 755 s.v. παντοκράτωρ states, “the Almighty, All-Powerful, Omnipotent (One) only of God…(ὁ) κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ π. …Rv 1:8; 4:8; 11:17; 15:3; 16:7; 21:22.”
