[3:3]  1 tn The expression πῶς εἴληφας καὶ ἤκουσας (pw" eilhfa" kai hkousa") probably refers to the initial instruction in the Christian life they had received and been taught; this included doctrine and ethical teaching.

[3:3]  2 tn Grk “keep it,” in the sense of obeying what they had initially been taught.

[3:3]  3 tn The negation here is with οὐ μή (ou mh, the strongest possible form of negation in Koine Greek).

[3:3]  4 tn Or “come on.”

[10:9]  5 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the implied result of the instructions given by the voice.

[10:9]  6 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[10:9]  7 tn The words “the scroll” are not in the Greek text, but are implied. Direct objects were frequently omitted in Greek when clear from the context.

[10:9]  8 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[13:8]  9 tn Grk “it”; the referent (the beast) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[13:8]  10 tn The prepositional phrase “since the foundation of the world” is traditionally translated as a modifier of the immediately preceding phrase in the Greek text, “the Lamb who was killed” (so also G. B. Caird, Revelation [HNTC], 168), but it is more likely that the phrase “since the foundation of the world” modifies the verb “written” (as translated above). Confirmation of this can be found in Rev 17:8 where the phrase “written in the book of life since the foundation of the world” occurs with no ambiguity.

[13:8]  11 tn Or “slaughtered”; traditionally, “slain.”

[14:9]  13 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[14:9]  14 tn Grk “And another angel, a third.”

[14:9]  15 tn Grk “followed them.”

[14:9]  16 tn For the translation of λέγω (legw) as “declare,” see BDAG 590 s.v. 2.e.

[21:6]  17 tn Or “It has happened.”

[21:6]  18 tn The word “water” is not in the Greek text, but is implied. Direct objects were frequently omitted in Greek when clear from the context.

[21:6]  19 tn Or “as a free gift” (see L&N 57.85).
