Revelation 6:10-11

Context
6:10 They 1  cried out with a loud voice, 2  “How long, 3  Sovereign Master, 4  holy and true, before you judge those who live on the earth and avenge our blood?” 6:11 Each 5  of them was given a long white robe and they were told to rest for a little longer, until the full number was reached 6  of both their fellow servants 7  and their brothers who were going to be killed just as they had been.

Revelation 20:4-5

Context

20:4 Then 8  I saw thrones and seated on them were those who had been given authority to judge. 9  I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. These 10  had not worshiped the beast or his image and had refused to receive his mark on their forehead or hand. They 11  came to life 12  and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 20:5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were finished.) 13  This is the first resurrection.

Revelation 20:12

20:12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne. Then 14  books were opened, and another book was opened – the book of life. 15  So 16  the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to their deeds. 17

Isaiah 26:19-21

26:19 21 Your dead will come back to life;

your corpses will rise up.

Daniel 7:9-10

Context

7:9 “While I was watching,

thrones were set up,

and the Ancient of Days 28  took his seat.

His attire was white like snow;

the hair of his head was like lamb’s 29  wool.

His throne was ablaze with fire

and its wheels were all aflame. 30 

7:10 A river of fire was streaming forth

and proceeding from his presence.

Many thousands were ministering to him;

Many tens of thousands stood ready to serve him. 31 

The court convened 32 

and the books were opened.

Daniel 12:1-2

Context

12:1 “At that time Michael,

the great prince who watches over your people, 33 

will arise. 34 

There will be a time of distress

unlike any other from the nation’s beginning 35 

up to that time.

But at that time your own people,

all those whose names are 36  found written in the book,

will escape.

12:2 Many of those who sleep

in the dusty ground will awake –

some to everlasting life,

and others to shame and everlasting abhorrence. 37

The plural form אוֹרֹת (’orot) is probably a plural of respect or magnitude, meaning “bright light” (i.e., morning’s light). Dew is a symbol of fertility and life. Here Israel’s “dew,” as it were, will soak the dust of the ground and cause the corpses of the dead to spring up to new life, like plants sprouting up from well-watered soil.

[26:19]  24 sn It is not certain whether the resurrection envisioned here is intended to be literal or figurative. A comparison with 25:8 and Dan 12:2 suggests a literal interpretation, but Ezek 37:1-14 uses resurrection as a metaphor for deliverance from exile and the restoration of the nation (see Isa 27:12-13).

[26:20]  25 tn Heb “until anger passes by.”

[26:21]  26 tn Heb “out of his place” (so KJV, ASV).
