[1:7]  1 map For location see JP4 A1.

[1:7]  2 tn Although the first part of v. 7 is not a complete English sentence, it maintains the “From…to” pattern used in all the Pauline letters to indicate the sender and the recipients. Here, however, there are several intervening verses (vv. 2-6), which makes the first half of v. 7 appear as an isolated sentence fragment.

[1:7]  3 tn Grk “Grace to you and peace.”

[5:11]  4 tn Here δέ (de) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[5:11]  5 tn Or “exult, boast.”

[6:23]  7 tn A figurative extension of ὀψώνιον (oywnion), which refers to a soldier’s pay or wages. Here it refers to the end result of an activity, seen as something one receives back in return. In this case the activity is sin, and the translation “payoff” captures this thought. See also L&N 89.42.

[9:29]  10 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[9:29]  11 tn Traditionally, “Lord of hosts”; Grk “Lord Sabaoth,” which means “Lord of the [heavenly] armies,” sometimes translated more generally as “Lord Almighty.”

[9:29]  12 sn A quotation from Isa 1:9.

[11:3]  13 sn A quotation from 1 Kgs 19:10, 14.

[12:19]  16 tn Grk “the wrath,” referring to God’s wrath as the remainder of the verse shows.

[12:19]  17 sn A quotation from Deut 32:35.

[14:11]  19 sn A quotation from Isa 45:23.
