The Maidens to the Beloved:

6:1 Where has your beloved gone,

O most beautiful among women?

Where has your beloved turned?

Tell us, ¹  that we may seek him with you. ²

6:5 Turn your eyes away from me –

they overwhelm ³  me!

Your hair is like a flock of goats

descending from Mount Gilead.

[6:1]  ¹ tn The phrase “Tell us!” does not appear in the Hebrew but is supplied in the translation for the sake of smoothness.

[6:1]  ² tn Heb “And we may seek him with you.” The vav-conjunctive on וּנְבַקְשֶׁנּוּ (unÿvaqshennu, “and we may seek him with you”) denotes purpose/result.

[6:5]  ³ tn The verb רָהַב (rahav) should be nuanced “overwhelm” or “arouse” rather than “storm against,” “make proud,” “confuse,” “dazzle,” or “overcome” (BDB 923 s.v. רָהַב).
