They conceive ¹  trouble and bring forth evil; their belly ²  prepares deception.”

A truthful witness ¹  rescues lives, ²  but the one who breathes lies brings ³  deception. ⁴ 

The wisdom of the shrewd person ¹  is to discern ²  his way, but the folly of fools is deception. ³ 

So how can you console me with your futile words? Nothing is left of your answers but deception!” ¹ 

and with every kind of evil deception directed against ¹  those who are perishing, because they found no place in their hearts for the truth ²  so as to be saved.

Why, then, do these people of Jerusalem ¹  continually turn away from me in apostasy? They hold fast to their deception. ²  They refuse to turn back to me. ³ 

But exhort one another each day, as long as it is called “Today,” that none of you may become hardened by sin’s deception.

But you have plowed wickedness; you have reaped injustice; you have eaten the fruit of deception. Because you have depended on your chariots; ¹  you have relied ²  on your many warriors.

Guard against self-deception, each of you. ¹  If someone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish so that he can become wise.

So give orders to secure the tomb until the third day. Otherwise his disciples may come and steal his body ¹  and say to the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”

Therefore you ¹  will have to say farewell ²  to Moresheth Gath. The residents ³  of Achzib ⁴  will be as disappointing as a dried up well ⁵  to the kings of Israel. ⁶ 

Though his ¹  hatred may be concealed ²  by deceit, his evil will be uncovered ³  in the assembly.

Your sin inspires ¹  your mouth; you choose the language ²  of the crafty. ³ 

For my mouth ¹  speaks truth, ²  and my lips ³  hate wickedness. ⁴ 

Do not crave that ruler’s ¹  delicacies, for ²  that food is deceptive. ³ 

Those who seek my life try to entrap me; ¹  those who want to harm me speak destructive words; all day long they say deceitful things.

We know our noisy worship of false gods on the hills and mountains did not help us. ¹  We know that the Lord our God is the only one who can deliver Israel. ² 

People lie to one another; ¹  they flatter and deceive. ² 

Remove falsehood and lies ¹  far from me; do not give me poverty or riches, feed me with my allotted portion ²  of bread, ³ 

They do one act of violence after another, and one deceitful thing after another. ¹  They refuse to pay attention to me,” ²  says the Lord.
