Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. ¹  Scripture ²  does not say, “and to the descendants,” ³  referring to many, but “and to your descendant,” ⁴  referring to one, who is Christ.

So the Lord ¹  let him alone. (At that time ²  she said, “A bridegroom of blood,” referring to ³  the circumcision.)

So Simon Peter ¹  gestured to this disciple ²  to ask Jesus ³  who it was he was referring to. ⁴ 

¹ The following events happened ²  in the days of Ahasuerus. ³  (I am referring to ⁴  that Ahasuerus who used to rule over a hundred and twenty-seven provinces ⁵  extending all the way from India to Ethiopia. ⁶ )

She named the boy Ichabod, ¹  saying, “The glory has departed from Israel,” referring to the capture of the ark of God and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.

These are all destined to perish with use, founded as they are ¹  on human commands and teachings. ² 

Isaiah said these things because he saw Christ’s ¹  glory, and spoke about him.

Then ¹  beginning with Moses and all the prophets, ²  he interpreted to them the things written about ³  himself in all the scriptures.

(Now Jesus had been talking about ¹  his death, but they ²  thought he had been talking about real sleep.) ³ 

When reading this, ¹  you will be able to ²  understand my insight into this secret ³  of Christ.

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content in any circumstance.

And he says ¹  of the angels, “He makes ²  his angels spirits and his ministers a flame of fire,” ³ 

“Brothers, ¹  I can speak confidently ²  to you about our forefather ³  David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

“What I am saying does not refer to all of you. I know the ones I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture, ¹  ‘The one who eats my bread ²  has turned against me.’ ³ 

They observed the Feast of Unleavened Bread for seven days with joy, for the Lord had given them joy and had changed the opinion ¹  of the king of Assyria ²  toward them, so that he assisted ³  them in the work on the temple of God, the God of Israel.
