For he set its foundation upon the seas, and established ¹  it upon the ocean currents. ² 

Let the heavens and the earth praise him, along with the seas and everything that swims in them!

¹ Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders have perfected your beauty.

Your rowers have brought you into surging waters. The east wind has wrecked you in the heart of the seas.

God called the dry ground “land” ¹  and the gathered waters he called “seas.” God saw that it was good.

He does whatever he pleases in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all the ocean depths.

the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea and everything that moves through the currents ¹  of the seas.

They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die violently ¹  in the heart of the seas.

You calm the raging seas ¹  and their roaring waves, as well as the commotion made by the nations. ² 

God blessed them ¹  and said, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.” ² 

The ships of Tarshish ¹  were the transports for your merchandise. “‘So you were filled and weighed down in the heart of the seas.

When your products went out from the seas, you satisfied many peoples; with the abundance of your wealth and merchandise you enriched the kings of the earth.

Now you are wrecked by the seas, in the depths of the waters; your merchandise and all your company have sunk ¹  along with you. ² 

He will pitch his royal tents between the seas ¹  toward the beautiful holy mountain. But he will come to his end, with no one to help him.

“‘These you can eat from all creatures that are in the water: Any creatures in the water that have both fins and scales, ¹  whether in the seas or in the streams, ²  you may eat.

They will summon peoples to the mountain, there they will sacrifice proper ¹  sacrifices; for they will enjoy ²  the abundance of the seas, and the hidden treasures of the shores. ³ 

You answer our prayers by performing awesome acts of deliverance, O God, our savior. ¹  All the ends of the earth trust in you, ²  as well as those living across the wide seas. ³ 

They will sing this lament over you: ¹  “‘How you have perished – you have vanished ²  from the seas, O renowned city, once mighty in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who spread their terror! ³ 

The many nations massing together are as good as dead, ¹  those who make a commotion as loud as the roaring of the sea’s waves. ²  The people making such an uproar are as good as dead, ³  those who make an uproar as loud as the roaring of powerful waves. ⁴ 

But any creatures that do not have both fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the streams, from all the swarming things of the water and from all the living creatures that are in the water, are detestable to you.
